Fauna’s girls. We still haven’t settled on a name. Oh and Nigel our future dinner in the background.

My southern engineered way to make due with the standing water when it rains. A boardwalk.

Blue our rather shaggy looking donkey. She is scared of brushes. Sigh.

We covered one of the chicken pens with a big tarp.

A mille fleur went broody and hatched a chick. But it has a mole on it’s head. Weird!

We have been grilling a lot since the high heat sat in. Here is my first ever smoked turkey! No it wasn’t one of my girls. Was one from the store.

Tornado Outbreak. We are okay

There was a large storm front last night. Tornados all around us but none got us. The closest one I know of so far was the mile wide Granbury one. One time last night we headed to town to wait it out. Thankfully all was well but still had to take precautions. Note to self I need more batteries for the scanner. My prayers for all who lost their family or homes. Prayers also for all the volunteers and first responders.

Busy Saturday 03/11/2013

This morning we headed out to a friends house in Dublin to pick up a 16′ hanging rabbit cage. We had to cut it in half to get it in the truck. Then we headed to eat lunch with a friend but the cages blew out on the highway. So after we retrieved then and tied them down even more securely we finally went to lunch.

After lunch I went to Dollar Tree. I used a bunch of coupons and got a lot free. The bill was $45.06 and I only spent $15.48.

Then we headed to pick up a free tarp that was a messed up sign we are gonna use for covering the pens. And picked up some staples from the hardware store.

After a brief catching our breath we went out to the garden. I finished planting the mustard seed. Planted the cauliflower. My son planted onions. Then my daughter helped me roll out the black plastic that will be the walkways we will cover with mulch.

My husband started building a broader for the chicks. They are growing so fast.

Gonna Play Catch Up

Okay guys get ready for some major blog reading. I GOT to get caught up on my posts. So much going on. Ack! Where to start?! Msg me in the comments is you think of anything I left you hanging on.

Sad News

We had some neighbors let their dog run loose. First time it killed a duck we couldn’t catch it. Then it killed another duck last Wednesday and so I shot the dog dead. See here in Texas they don’t play around with livestock being harassed and killed by stray dogs. Legally I could even take the neighbors to court to get them to pay $35 each for the ducks (they both were hens!) So now we are down to 6 drakes, three hens, one juvenile duck that might be a hen and two just hatched ducklings.

Flu Smoo…

On Wednesday night I got a horrible headache and ached all over. I had a stuffy head and felt like Id lose my dinner any moment. In the morning the symptoms just intensified. Oh, I had to admit it I was sick.

A friend told me to make a tea of some spices. I’ll have to update the recipe later I can’t find it now. To help fight the virus off. It smelled pretty good. Then again I was sick so my senses could have been off. Haha. I added a lot of honey to help it taste better. It wasn’t great. I’ve tasted worse. But if it works I’ll do just about anything.

I then took a dose of Oscillococcsimum a homeopathic flu med. And for extra effort I mixed in a teaspoon on raw minced garlic in my bowl of rice. Oh yeah I ate cooked brown rice all day except for dinner. Something must have worked because I feel about 60% myself today again. No hard projects anytime soon until I’m myself. I really think I missed the bullet for now not getting the big old bad flu bug. Thank God!

Daughter’s Surgery Has Been Moved Up

As some long time readers may remember my teenage daughter has a degenerative joint condition and scholiosis. Her spine is now at a 66° curve so they will be putting rods in and fusing her back. She is very excited to get this done. That and its possible she’ll be taller but her biggest hope is to be in less pain. I pray it will all go well and not be disapointed by the results.

Her surgery was scheduled for the end of January but they called yesterday to check if we knew her surgery had been moved up. Umm no… Well her pre op is the 2nd and the surgery is the 7th. We have to check back in the night before. I will be away from the farm and my babies for a week. Ack! How’s my hubby gonna handle it all. And more importantly how am I gonna handle being away from my youngest. I’ve never been away from him this long yet. Sniff Sniff.

I’ll keep ya’ll updated if you like. This definately puts a halt on other projects I’m working on on the farm. But my daughters health and happiness is so worth it.

Surgery Coming Up

I don’t talk about it much because I intend this to be a homesteading blog but to my long time readers I know you know I have two children with special needs. My daughter has a degenerative joint disorder and scholiosis. One of my sons has autism/bipolar. This does affect our priorities and schedules in our life.

We recently recieved news our daughters scholiosis has degenerated to the point she needs surgery. She has a 66 degree curve. They are thinking could be in Jan possibly sooner since they put her on the cancelation list. Please pray she stays healthy until then. Well after then too. Lol.
