I love to paint. To see how a bright fresh can of paint can add new life to a room. That being said staining and sealing a big front porch is a whole different story. I got two cans of latex stain and seal called Deckscape by Sherwin Williams in Redwood. I was a little unsure about using a latex stain but so glad we did. It dried quick and looks very nice.
It was a lot more work than I thought. We never sealed our porch when built in 2010. Did first coat starting last night finishing late this afternoon. We stopped once for a small rain shower but other than that slaved away at it.
Tomorrow we still need to finish second coat on porch floor and poles. We will paint the rails and banisters later once we replace some of the wood. My knees are so swollen, I told hubby I cry “Uncle” and will work on laundry tomorrow instead. I’ll leave the last bit to him. Here are some photos of the progression as we went. I will post pics of the finished product once we are done. Oh and to those critics “What does porch painting have to do with homesteading?” Where do you think you want to be after a long hard day of working?

Oh! That looks sooo good. Small things really make you feel good(not that THAT was a small thing).

Thank you. Oh its a big thing. Thank God it doesn’t have to be done every year. But porch sitting is cheaper than therapy
